Introduction
The York Chocolate breed is now considered extinct due to no cats being registered, but cats with similar colouring and appearance still exist, and diluted versions or variations of the original York Chocolate are still much-loved family pets and companions, and make super-snuggly feline friends.
History
The York Chocolate cat breed was developed in New York in the early 1980s and quickly gained a lot of fans due to its luxurious looks and friendly nature. As an “experimental” breed, the exact ancestry is unknown, but long-haired domestic cats were used in the mix to create the fluffy, chocolate-coloured, and very affectionate cat that won the hearts of many.
Personality
The York Chocolate was renowned for its gorgeous dark chocolate-coloured fluffy coat and super-sweet, affectionate temperament. As very cuddly cats, they made great companions for children and people of all ages, and as a mix of various domestic longhaired cat breeds, they were generally calm, relaxed characters that took daily life in their stride, making them an excellent choice for family homes.
