Introduction
The Tiffany is truly snuggly breed of cat that forms strong bonds with its people. They can be wary of strangers, but they are calm, reserved characters that take most things in their stride, including other household pets, making them an excellent choice for family homes.
History
The Tiffany cat breed is not to be confused with a separate breed known as the “Tiffanie”, and it’s for this reason that the Tiffany is most often referred to as the Chantilly/Tiffany to make the distinction clear. The Chantilly/Tiffany was originally named the Foreign Longhair when it was first developed in the late 1960s in the United States, but its exact origins are unknown, other than the parents being “chocolate-coloured cats”. A variety of long-haired cats were then added to the mix to create the Tiffany as it’s known today. At one point in recent history, the Chantilly/Tiffany was believed to be extinct, but this is not the case, although it remains a rare breed.
Personality
The Tiffany is renowned for its sweet and affectionate temperament and tendency to follow its people around to watch what they’re doing. They prefer to have constant company, but they generally get on well with other cats or dogs in the household and will make do with these companions while family members are out. As very cuddly cats, they make great companions for children and people of all ages.
