The Peterbald is an experimental breed. You might think looking at them that this breed was designed for warmer weather, however they were developed in Russia! They can come in Shorthair, velour, flocked, or brushed varieties. They can also be entirely bald with some individuals lacking eyebrows and whiskers.

Developed in 1994 by a Russian Felinoligist names Olga S Mironova, this cat is similar in appearance to the Oriental Shorthair, this aesthetic comes from a hair loss gene carried by this breed. The parents of the breed were a Don Hairless named Afinogen Myth and an Oriental Shorthair named Radma Von Jagerhov. The first litter created four Peterbald kittens who became the founders of the breed. In Russia they were registered on 1996, with the International Cat Fanciers Association recognising them in 1997, with the World Cat Fanciers Association accepting them in 2003. They were accepted for championship showings in 2009.

Sweet, intelligent, energetic, and affectionate, the Peterbald tends to follow its owners around acting as a "shadow". Their loving nature means they do generally get on with other animals, such as cat friendly dogs, and children. It should be noted that any children who interact with this breed need to be taught how to do so correctly to reduce the risk of stress or accidental injuries to either party. They have a tendency to vocalise but not get too noisy, so you'll always know where they are in the house!

Peterbalds can be very energetic and so need lots of mental and physical enrichment to make sure that they don't develop boredom based problem behaviours. They do well with individual and interactive play, however they tend not to want to wander too far from their humans and so interactive play may be preferred.
