Introduction
More commonly referred to as the ‘Japanese Bobtail’, the Korean Bobtail is pretty much the same cat with the same looks and same characteristics. As the name suggests, it’s just that this cat is found on the South Korea mainland.
These beautiful cats are commonplace throughout Japan and other parts of South-East Asia but have been present in Europe and the US for at least 40 years, although they’re nowhere near as popular as other breeds.
History
Taking insight from the history of the Japanese Bobtail, the Korean Bobtail have been around for a very long time. Records date these cats back in Japanese culture as far as 999AD, but back then, it was the law that only richer, more prestigious aristocracies could own such beautiful cats.
As with Japanese Bobtails, records detail that these cats leaving Japan and spreading to Western parts of the world show up around 1968 when an American breeder by the name of Elizabeth Freret established the first breeding program in the US using three short-haired cats, and the breed was officially recognised come 1971 and have been slowly gaining popularity ever since.
Personality
There are two main traits the Korean Bobtail possess. Firstly, these cats are extremely human orientated and love being around their owners and want nothing more than to cuddle up, play, and spend time with you. Secondly, these cats are incredibly intelligent and love playing games, learning tricks, and getting involved in challenges, like trying to get a treat from under an upside-down glass.
