Introduction
As the name suggests, the German Rex is a breed that originated in Germany but has spread around the world and are nowadays renowned for their loveable attitudes and personalities, making them nothing short of a cat lover’s dream cat. However, while popular and ideal as cats, this breed is considered extremely rare, so if you’re able to find one, you’ve definitely found yourself an opportunity that few people get to enjoy.
History
There’s not much known about the history of the German Rex. There are reports that date back around the 1940s when a cat of a similar description to this breed was found in the basement of a hospital in East Germany. Strange already, right? The cat was named Laemmchen, and the litter she had in later years became the foundations of the entire German Rex breed.
Because of these mysterious origins, the German Rex breed is considered super-rare, especially if you want one genetically accurate to the original cats, although it’s clear they are similar to the Cornish Rex breed. While officially recognised as its own breed in Germany, it’s not currently the same in other countries around the world.
Personality
German Rexs are incredibly loveable and playful cats. They love being active and moving around, whether they’re running around the garden or playing games, and will need a lot of attention from you if you want your cat to be happy. Of course, this means lots of cuddles and kisses, so it’s hardly a chore.
As long as you’re willing to put the time in like this, it’s possible to have an extremely strong relationship with your cat, one that’s incredibly loyal and unlike a relationship that’s even possible with most cats. However, you need to be consistent with putting the time in. Otherwise, it won’t happen!
