Introduction
The Chinchilla Persian or Chinchilla as it is known for short is a beautiful breed of cat from the Persian breed family and is one of the most popular of the Persian breeds Striking white silvery fur is complemented with startling green eyes that seem to have their own unique black makeup. This cat is named after the South African rodent and great is the debate about whether they are a Silver Persian or a distinct breed in their own right. The International Cat Association groups the Chinchilla as part of the Persian breed but other organisations consider the Chinchilla to be a separate breed from the Persian.
History
The Chinchilla Persian is a breed developed from a silver Persian cat called Chinne born in 1882. She was the smoke-coloured daughter of a blue Persian and an unknown stray. Chinne was mated to a silver tabby and it was one of the kittens from this litter which gave birth to the first male Chinchilla, known as Silver Lamkin. Breeders took to this beautiful cat at once and quickly developed the breed so that by the 1900s, it looked just like the modern breed seen now in the 21st century.
The Chinchilla, Silver and Smoke Cat Society was established early on in 1908 and devised a breed standard which has barely altered since.
Personality
Quiet and gentle, the Chinchilla Persian is a sweet-natured and affectionate breed that enjoys a peaceful home environment but they do crave human company and dislike being left on their own. The Chinchilla Persian is a cool cat, quite calm bordering on lazy even but this docile and tractable personality doesn’t mean they lack character or charm. They are quite a subtle breed with engaging personalities
