Collection: Personalised Arabian Mau Gifts

The Arabian Mau is a nocturnal breed, meaning they know the importance of getting enough sleep, even when the sun is out! To help those of us who find it tricky to fall asleep, we have personalised Arabian Mau blankets to snuggle under and candles to help keep the room full of a warm glow.

Introduction

The Arabian Mau has been around for roughly 1000 years, sharing its name with one of the oldest cat breeds in the world. Having been domesticated quickly this breed is particularly popular in Arabian countries and the Middle East. Adapted well to the arid and hot weather, these cats have naturally short coats.

History

Thought to have come into being around 1000 years ago, the breed is designed for living in the hot and Arid cat native to the Arabian Peninsula. The Arabian Mau has mostly developed itself outside of the influence of humans and has made itself an adept desert hunter. They are known as a landrace animal meaning that although domesticated, they are perfectly suited to living in their specific area of the world. As they are adapted to desert hunting and tend to either be nocturnal (awake at night) or crepuscular (awake at dawn and dusk). Despite their long history, the Arabian Mau has only recently been recognised as an official breed. You will often find these cats living as street cats, hunting in the desert environment, and surviving independent of human involvement.

Personality

Affectionate, social, and energetic, the Arabian Mau is designed for hunting in desert environments. Because of this, they need plenty of physical and mental exercise to keep them active and to steer them away from boredom based problem behaviours. They are affectionate to the human they choose and will be a loyal companion to them come what may. If they are allowed outside, they are likely to bring home plenty of presents for their owners. Whilst they do tend to get on well with children and other cat friendly animals, however, all children, especially younger children, need to be taught how to interact with them respectfully to avoid accidental injuries. They may not be a good cat for families with birds, small mammals, or reptiles, as these are all the exact prey they would have gone after in the wild. Because of this, they also may not be best suited to being allowed to free roam outdoors, instead providing them with an enclosed outdoor space may be better for them and local wildlife.
