Introduction

Named after the Greek Goddess for love, fertility, and beauty, the Aphrodite giant is a natural cat breed that developed itself on the Grecian island of Cyprus. Living up to its name, this breed is handsome and affectionate, with a large and muscular physique.

History

There have been archaeological remains that suggest this cat breed has been on the Grecian islands for at least 10,000 years. In that time they have developed themselves as a breed with very little intervention from humans, gaining longer legs to make climbing up hills easier. This and their muscular frame is thought to help them hunt larger prey on the island than just the standard fare of mice. They are known as a landrace animal meaning that although domesticated, they are perfectly suited to living in their specific area of the world. Despite being one of the oldest cat breeds in the world, the World Cat Federation only started to acknowledge the breed in 2012. The Aphrodite Giant is one of two breeds that originated on the Grecian islands.

Personality

The Aphrodite Giant is a gentle giant that spreads its affection around all of the humans in its life and not just one. They get on exceptionally well with other animals and children. All children that interact with them need to be taught how to interact with them in a respectful way to mitigate the risk of accidental injuries. As on the Grecian islands they would have hunted for their meals they may not be the best fit for those with other small mammals in the house, however they may well get on well with cat friendly dogs and other animals. They are calm, affectionate, and playful, making them excellent family pets. Due to their heritage, they may require having an enclosed outdoor area rather than being allowed to free roam should they begin to be detrimental to the local wildlife.
