Introduction
As the name suggests, the Egyptian Mau is a beautiful cat from Egypt that has won families’ hearts around the world. A striking appearance with an incredibly lean build and a stunning coat that makes these cats instantly recognisable, this bundle of joy will melt you and make you sing on the inside.
This breed really does tick all the boxes. It can be calm, gentle, affectionate, and cosy, but it also loves to run around, play, and learn new tricks. If you’re on the hunt for a cat you want to shower with love, the Egyptian Mau could be perfect.
History
While records show the Egyptian Mau originates from Africa, it’s suggested that they were domesticated and started to live around humans around Ancient Egyptian times, which dates their relationships with humans back at least 4,000 years. At the time, they were used as household pets, were revered in artwork and worshipped as being godlike, and were used in duck hunting efforts at the time.
Over the years, this breed has remained popular and was known for being one of the first cats from Egypt to be introduced to Europe, despite the following World War I conflicts that obliterated their numbers. Nevertheless, they have since bounced back in popularity, and recent imports from places like Egypt and India have very much kept the breed alive.
Personality
Egyptian Maus are another one of those cats that love to give affection and are more than happy to be around humans and their families. Due to the history of the Egyptian Mau, they are also known as being very intelligent cats that are smart, playful, and can even learn simple tricks.
These are also one of the funniest cats that are renowned for their sense of humour, and there’s no denying they have bubbly personalities that really shine. In short, these aren’t boring cats, nor bald, but are happy, active, and personable. What more could you want from such a beautiful breed?
