Introduction
It’s very easy to mistake the Dwelf for the classic hairless Sphynx cat, but they are very much different breeds, but they are related. A Dwelf is an experimental cat breed that has been bred by crossing three separate breeds: the Munchkin, the Sphynx, and the American Curl, making it very easy to see where it got all its looks from.
Since these cats are relatively new, they are still relatively rare and aren’t found in many countries, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be over the coming years, Since the parent breeds are so popular, it’s going to be interesting to see where this particular breed goes.
History
There’s not a lot to say when it comes to the history of the Dwelf. It’s only really started to appear over the last few years, so much so that this breed isn’t officially recognised by any cat registry organisations and is not found legitimately outside the US.
What we do know, however, is that this breed was bred using the three parent breeds that have been around for a very long time, which is why they have such prominent features, like the elfy ears and small, dwarf-like size. As breeding continues, these characteristics could change, so watch this space!
Personality
Because of the experimental breed status, we don’t really know much about how the Dwelf is going to behave, but we do know that it will be a mix of personality traits from the parent breeds, but this will depend on the nature of the parents.
However, to give you an idea, some of the traits you can expect include ones like being fairly energetic despite its small size, highly personable, love being around their humans and having a lot of love to give. Some owners even describe this cat as being almost like a dog in its temperament, which should give you a clear enough idea of what they act like!
