Introduction
The Dragon Li cat is by far one of the most ancient cat breeds in the world and comes from an ancient Chinese heritage, these highly intelligent, highly independent, and very loving cats make perfect pets that love nothing more than playing and winning over the hearts of you and your family.
With roles as the unofficial cat of China, and a working history, while it’s rare to see this cat outside of Chinese territories, they do exist here and there (there were four registered cats in the US as of 2017), and they may have yet to take off in other parts of the world.
History
The history of the Dragon Li is slightly confusing. The breed was only recognised in china around 2004 when it first appeared in the Beijing Cat Show hosted by the Cat Aficionado Association, which is the largest cat registry organisation in China. However, there are clear records that date the breed back thousands of years.
It’s reported that these cats descended from the Chinese Mountain Cat breed and were used by Chinese people to help protect crops and manage the rodent populations in farms and cities. Due to this long history of being around humans, they make such great, affectionate breeds today.
Personality
There’s no doubt that the hunting, mouser instinct of the Dragon Li cat is still very prevalent in the modern breed, which means these cats love to run around and get exercise, as well as being very curious and explorative. This means they love being in a home with lots of space to roam around.
However, these cats are more than happy with just a moderate amount of exercise and will happily spend the rest of your time relaxing with you, cuddling on the sofa, or following you around the house. There’s no doubt these cats will quickly become one of your new best friends!
