Introduction
Small and affectionate, the best way to describe the Devon Rex is as ‘a bundle of love’. These cats are becoming extremely popular worldwide due to their low maintenance lifestyles and the fact they just have so much endless love to give.
Lots of people like to think that cats are very independent and don’t really love to be around humans unless they want feeding and so on, but the Devon Rex proves that’s simply not the case. If you’re looking for a cat breed your family won’t be able to get enough of, the Devon Rex makes an ideal choice,
History
Devon Rex cats actually come from another breed of cat that developed a genetic mutation, which after lots of breeding, then became known as the breed we know and love today. This happened back in 1957 when a kitten called Kirlee was born in Devon that showed the same kind of features as a Cornish Rex (bred nearby in Cornwall), but tests showed that it was just a Cornish breed with the mutation.
Kirlee started the Devon Rex breed line, and in under ten years, in 1968, the breed had already been exported to the US and was officially recognised as being a breed by 1979.
Personality
There’s no denying that the Devon Rex is one of the most affectionate breeds out there. Most of these cats love nothing more than relaxing on your shoulders or at least being head height so they can see you. Due to these cats’ high intelligence levels, they are also game for playing with you and even have the capability to learn and enjoy some simple tricks.
Just make sure you’re looking after this cat, have some toys available for when they do want to play every now and then, and keep an eye on their diet to make sure they’re not getting too chubby! I know we all love fat cats, but it’s got to stay healthy!
