Introduction
Cornish Rexs are beautiful little cats that always win over the hearts of their owners. Easily described as being playful and affectionate, while small size, these cats are big in personality. In fact, these cats are so loving, there are plenty of owners out there that describe this cat being more like a dog, with tendencies like following you from room to room and love few things more than playing with their toys.
History
The records show that the Cornish Rex breed dates back to around the 1950s in Cornwall, England, hence where the breed gets its name but actually bred from a spontaneous natural mutation. This reportedly occurred when two non-pedigree cats had a litter of kittens and just one had different whiskers and coat compared with the rest, and thus became the first Cornish Rex.
The cats continued to breed, and just ten years later, in 1960, the cat was recognised as its own breed by the GCCF and have gained steady popularity around the world ever since.
Personality
While Cornish Rexs are clearly very noble in their aesthetics, they are actually quite sturdy and hardy, so don’t be fooled by their fragile looks. Cornish Rex, much like their parent breeds, are cats with tons of energy and love to play, so don’t be afraid to get stuck in being as active with your cat as possible.
However, since being people-orientated, these cats can quite get quite fidgety and nervous when left on their own for too long, so do make sure you’re giving them the attention they’re looking for!
