Introduction

Only recently identified and named as a breed, the first Wila Krungthep in Thailand was given the name Mai Thong, meaning “golden silk”. It was the unusual colour of the coat that led to the breed being recognised as a mutation of Thailand’s Siamese cat, and the colour of a Wila Krungthep is now known as Si Mai, meaning “the colour of golden silk”.

History

The Wila Krungthep is believed to be an ancient mutation of the Thai cat (Traditional Siamese) that has only recently been identified. Since 2014, it has been recognised as the Wila Krungthep, which translates as Bangkok cat, and efforts are now being made to better understand its origins.

Personality

The Wila Krungthep is a playful, outgoing cat by nature and loves to be given undivided attention at home. They are very affectionate and become devoted to their people, following them around from room to room and having “conversations” about whatever is going on. They thrive on companionship and cuddles, meaning they prefer to live with another cat if their people are not at home all day, and don’t do well if left alone.
