Introduction

The Ukrainian Levkoy certainly stands out in the cat world, not least for its hairless body, but also for its folded-over ears, large eyes, and wrinkly appearance. Their looks are extraordinary, but as playful and affectionate characters, they are growing in popularity as loving companions and family pets.

History

The Ukrainian Levkoy is a new breed that was developed in the early 2000s by a Russian breeder who wanted to create a hairless cat with a unique look – folded ears. A Donskoy was initially bred with a Scottish Fold, and after other variations were added to the gene pool, the Ukrainian Levkoy became a recognised breed in 2005.

Personality

The Ukrainian Levkoy is known to take a little bit of time to form attachments with its people, but once it does, they become super-sociable, friendly, and fun characters to have around. They get on well with children and other pets, making them a good choice for family homes, and after some energetic games, they love snuggling up on a cosy lap. As a hairless cat, they feel the cold, meaning they are best suited to indoor living.

Care Tips Ukrainian Levkoys enjoy human interaction and need snuggle opportunities throughout the day. They don’t do well if left alone. Grooming: the lack of body hair leads to oil accumulating on the skin, and this requires weekly bathing to remove. Ear wax also needs to be removed from their large ears regularly. Feeding: the Ukrainian Levkoy needs at least two meals each day and often more to help ensure they maintain their body temperature.
