If you crossbreed some of the classic breeds of cats like the Scottish Fold, the Exotic Longhair and Shorthair cats, you’ll be left with a Foldex, also known as an Exotic Fold. These are adorable little cats that are known for their round-tipped folded ears and their heart-warming teddy bear look, which is exactly what the original breeders wanted to create in the first place! It’s safe to say they succeeded!

There are clear records that show the Foldex cat first started to appear around the early 1990s in Quebec, Canada. Two of the most adorable cat breeds, the Exotic Shorthair and Scottish Fold, were bred with the aim of creating the cutest cat possible that’s teddy bear-like in nature, and after a few years of trial and error, we finally have the Foldex cat we have today.

However, it took nearly 20 years for the Foldex to be officially recognised as a full Championship breed, but at the time of writing, it is only the Canadian Cat Association that recognises this cat as an official breed, which makes seeing as though it’s only really bred properly in Canada. However, there is undoubtedly growing popularity in places like the US and Europe.

With the parent breeds that the Foldex has, it should come as no surprise that these cats are some of the most lovable cats around. Some of the best describable traits include characteristics like being highly intelligent, positive, curious, a lover of play and exploring, and incredibly affectionate, which is precisely what you want for a teddy bear cat.

As long as you’re petting your cat, giving them lots of attention, playing with them around children, strangers, or even other pets, your Foldex is going to be more than happy, which is exactly what so many cat owners look for in a low maintenance cat.
