A beautiful and elegant breed, the Asian Semi-Longhair is also known by the name, Tiffanie, and is very similar to the Asian Shorthair just with a longer silky coat. A real people cat, the Asian Semi-Longhair is friendly and demands attention. Rather oddly and despite their name, this breed originated in Britain and was the accidental result of a mating between a Chinchilla Persian and a Burmese.

The unplanned mating between a Burmese and a Chinchilla Persian took place way back in the 1980s so the Asian Semi-Longhair is a hybrid breed that has been around a while. The kittens attracted breeders who were keen to develop the breed as a standalone cat and also increase coat colours and patterns.

The Asian Group Cat Society (AGCS) was formed in 1985 specifically to develop this breed plus others within the same grouping but a lack of verifiable breeding records meant the Asian Semi-Longhair was slow to catch on in a formal and recognised way. The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy recognised the breed in 2003 and awarded it championship status but it is yet to be officially approved in the United States.

The Asian Semi-Longhair is a sociable and mischievous character and shares the lovely personality of its near relative, the Burmese, and the kind and gentle personality of the Chinchilla Persian. They adore the company of people but are also relaxed with other cats and pets like dogs providing they are cat-friendly. They enjoy attention and engagement so do prefer other furry company if they need to be left alone in the house regularly. The Asian Semi-Longhair is an intelligent breed and enjoys the stimulation of cat toys and games and they love to be held and cuddled.
