Introduction

Buggs is the name given to the hybrid breed that mixes the Boston Terrier and the Pug. These are relatively new breeds compared with most other dogs, so there is little known about them or where they truly come from, but there’s no doubt they are winning hearts around the world thanks to their small size and big hearts.

Put it this way. A full-size Buggs, even a large one, is only ever going to get around the 25lbs mark, so it’s super tiny, but that doesn’t stop it from being a playful little bundle of love.

History

As we said above, the Buggs breed is relatively new to, well, the world, and has only existed over the last few decades. However, we do know a lot about its parent breeds, which are the Pug and the Boston Terrier. The Pug started life out in China but had spread across the world, especially to Europe, at the end of the 16th Century, but was recognised by the American Kennel Club as late as 1889.

On the other hand, the Boston Terrier, a mix of the Bulldog and White English Terrier, came to light around the same time of 1889 but has remained popular ever since. Both are beloved amongst dog owners, so it’s only natural that the Buggs are the same.

Personality

Since both Boston Terriers and Pugs have lovable and affectionate personalities, it’s only natural that the Buggs are the same. Few dogs are better in terms of companionship than the Buggs. Despite their small size, they still have lots of energy and love to have fun, although perhaps not with a lot of stamina.

The only real downside to Buggs is that they can develop a very territorial attitude that can be a problem if you don’t train it out of the dog while it’s young. With ownership and socialising training, you should address the issue and have a perfect dog that causes no issues.
