Introduction

Goofy, playful and affectionate, the Bassugg is a modern designer dog that shows unconditional love for its owner. They are sure to keep you entertained with their energetic nature, but they can be lazy, so don’t need loads of exercise. The Bassugg is, therefore, the perfect companion for single-person or elderly households.

If you’re considering purchasing or adopting a Bassugg, you must research both parent breeds, the Basset Hound and the Pug. This is because breeders can’t ever guarantee a perfect 50/50 split, so its temperament will vary.

History

Whilst a few sources suggest that the Bassugg might have originated in the USA, there is no strong evidence for this. We do, however, have a clear understanding of where both parent breeds originated...,

The Pug descends from China, where it is nicknamed the Marmoset Monkey because of its monkey-like face. In the 16th century, the Chinese traded them for Dutch goods. Over time, their popularity boomed and the Pug became a common household pet. Official recognition in Britain came in 1889. Bassets are British scent hounds, skilled at hunting hare and sniffing out prey. The ‘bas’ in the name is French for ‘low’ which is pretty self-explanatory because of their short stumpy legs.

Personality

As mentioned before, this breed’s personality will depend on whether it is mainly Pug or Basset. However, both are very friendly and more than happy to entertain their owner with their goofy characteristics. They aren’t the cleverest of breeds, so training can be difficult. Ultimately, though, they are very low maintenance and they won’t bark the house down.
