Introduction

A Schnoodle is a cross between a German Schnauzer and a Poodle and because of the variation in size of both of these breeds, there is a lot of choice in the height, size and colour.

An adorable and lovely looking dog, their character traits are as appealing as their appearance and they are a breed that it is hard to go wrong with as the parents' are such lovely pets and companions.

History

The Schnoodle first appeared during the 1980s and was one of the first of the hybrid breeds that are now so popular. The Poodle has always been a much-cherished breed and the demand for crossbreeds was increasing. The intention was to unify the best features of both breeds and create a low-shedding family dog and companion animal.

Originally, the hybrid was kept to a strict Poodle Schnauzer cross and Schnoodles were not being bred to other Schnoodles multi-generationally in the early days. That has changed and Schnoodles are now bred to other Schnoodles. Like most crossbreeds, they are not registered as standardising a breed can take many decades. There is quite a lot of variety in the offspring as most puppies will favour one parent more than the other and are rarely a straight split between the two.

Personality

The Schnoodle has the sweetest personality and makes a lovely family pet, in fact, they are so reliable that they are often chosen as therapy dogs. They do have lots of energy but are happy to expend it playing ball in the garden – its human interaction they crave. They are a breed that can adapt to many different home environments.
