Only a cross between a Pekingese and a Poodle could have such an exotic name! This new cross-breed has yet to gain Kennel Club recognition because it is just too novel.

This is a bright breed of dog which requires exercise and mental stimulation despite its diminutive size. Like all cross-breeds, each dog will more closely resemble one parent than the other so there is quite a variety within the breed when it comes to colour and physical attributes.

As a breed of around 30 years in age, the Peek-a-poo is one of the longest established designer crossbreeds. A low shedding coat was one of the intentions behind crossing a Toy or Miniature Poodle with a Pekingnese creating a breed that can share homes with allergy sufferers. Sometimes these breeds are referred to as Hypoallergenic.

The breed is a first-generation cross which means that parentage is still the original Poodle and Pekingnese dogs rather than breeding from two Peek-a-poo puppies at maturity. This breed is not recognised by the Kennel Club but has a loyal fan club and enthusiastic owners with no dip in popularity since it first appeared mid last century.

The Peek-a-poo is a pint-sized ball of love and adores engaging with humans whether it is being involved in the day to day activities or sitting in your lap – be more cat!

The Peek-a-poo is a gentle breed so suitable for younger children and also elderly dog owners who don’t want a dog that is too large or boisterous. This is a good breed for first-time dog owners too and for people who live in town. Despite their evident popularity, there are not that many around and so good puppies command high prices.
