Introduction

Goldendoodles are hands down one of the most up-and-coming breeds across the US right now, a trend that is occurring all over the world. These beautiful doggies, bred from cross-breeding Golden Retrievers and Poodles, are stealing the hearts of dog owners around the world, and you only have to take one look at them to see why!

History

While a crossbreed, Goldendoodles have been around since around the 1980s, which was around the start of the boom in popular designer dog breeds, or at least when the industry was getting started with intentional breeding. As above, Goldendoodles are bred using a Poodle and a Golden Retriever.

However, there are multiple ways you can get a Goldendoodle that fits the international standard. You can either cross two Goldendoodles or breed two purebred parent breeds, usually a mix which is 25% Retriever and 75% Poodle. This is the crossbreeding that delivers the best results.

Personality

Since Goldendoodles are still classed as a hybrid breed, there are no hard-and-fast definitions that they have in terms of temperament. However, all you need to do is look at the parent breeds to see what kind of characteristics these dogs are going to have. Some of the most common are already starting to show through.

These traits include things like getting on well with children and other pets, being easy to train, and having a lot of love to give, both to you and to strangers! All you need to do is be a responsible owner by making sure the dog is properly socialised when younger, and that you’re supervising when playing with younger children!
