Introduction

The Cheagle is one of the bounciest, happy-go-lucky, and most energetic dog breeds you’re ever going to meet. Don’t be deceived by their small and compact size, these dogs will certainly keep you going for most of the day, which is just fantastic if you’re looking for a small dog that you can play with until your heart’s content.

However, while coming from a working dog background, these dogs are purely bred for companionship purposes, meaning that Cheagles are super affectionate to be around, love being with their humans, and simply make a great dog to have around!

History

Cheagles are through-and-through designer dogs, bred in the US for the sole purpose of being a human’s best friend. They come from selectively breeding Chihuahuas, originating in Mexico, and Beagles that come from England. Both these breeds are happy, playful and loyal, and these are all traits the Cheagle adopts.

However, due to their designer origins, these dogs can experience health problems if not monitored and frequently having check-ups at the vets. Some of these conditions affect the dog’s heart and eyes, so Cheagles need observant owners to ensure these aren’t problems.

Personality

Easily the main draw to Cheagles is the fact this breed is so outgoing. They are very well-behaved and loyal, and not yappy like you may expect a little dog like this to be. This makes them great household pets, even in small houses.

However, training these dogs is absolutely essential. Cheagles can resist training if left too late, which means you need to start early and make sure you’re being assertive. If you don’t, Cheagles can develop a tendency to be aggressive towards other dogs and wary of strangers. Just keep going and you’ll be fine!
