Introduction

The Bull Terrier. One of the most popular dogs in the UK, as well as being one of the most traditional. While Bull Terriers were originally bred for ratting and fighting, and herding in some parts of the UK, crossbreeding has softened this breed of dog over the years to make them one of the favoured companion pets around.

The owners speak for themselves. Bull Terriers are very popular due to their sociable attitudes, are very quiet and not known for being barking types, and love to be around their human families. They’re also extremely easy to groom and look after which makes them ideal pets for people of all ages!

History

It’s known that the Bull Terrier first started to appear around the beginning of the 1800s by breeding Bulldogs and Old English Terriers together, although it’s now known that Old English Terriers are actually extinct. At some point, Spanish Terriers were also bred into the bloodline to make these terriers a little taller, which made them ideal for their fighting origins.

However, over the last 200 years, the aggression from the breed has faded out, and are even regarded to be quite intelligent and elegant dogs, as they were regularly seen travelling in finer gentleman’s carriages across the UK over the years.

Personality

While the hunting origins are nearly gone completely, the instinct is still there, which makes the Bull Terriers a very playful and pleasing breed. They are strong, intelligent, and fast, and won’t be afraid to show all they’re got. However, this does require a lot of training, especially while the pup is young.

,p>With firm discipline, a proper training schedule, and lots of socialising training that starts from a really young age, you’ll end up with the best Bull Terrier you can even imagine. However, let the training slip and you’ll have a very excitable problem on your hands.
