Introduction

Boxers are one of the most well-known dog breeds around the world, and while traditionally bred for fighting, protection, and even bull-baiting, the taboos of Boxer dogs seemed to be fading away, and they are now recognised as being one of the best and most loving family pets out there.

One of the biggest draws to these pups is just how low-maintenance and easy to look after they are, and as long as you’re able to exercise them regularly and give them the run around they need, and can mentally stimulate them, you’ve got one perfect pup you’re never going to stop loving.

History

Boxers have been around for centuries and originate from the line of dog breeds like livestock dogs and Mastiffs. However, they really started coming into their own around the 19th century throughout Germany, which is where they were bred for fighting due to their muscular builds.

As time went on, dogfighting and other pastimes like bull-baiting were eventually made illegal throughout the world, and so began the transition from fighter to a family pet. By the turn of the 19th Century, Boxers were loved family pets but were even show dogs and used by the emergency services and military alike.

They were registered officially by the American Kennel Club in 1904.

Personality

Boxers are extremely social and need a lot of attention from a loving family to be happy. Because of this, Boxers love their tribe and can be very protective of their family, making them careful around strangers. Nevertheless, with proper social training, they can make friends easily and you won’t experience any problems.

The best thing to remember when owning a Boxer is to give them a lot of love and attention, keep their minds busy with new, fun activities, and just play with them! Then you’ve got yourself a dog that will mean the world to you!
