Introduction

One of the more unusual hybrid crosses, the Siberian Cocker is a mix of the Cocker Spaniel and the Siberian Husky. A strong and stocky little dog, this breed is perfectly proportioned, not too large not too small and not too energetic either, requiring only moderate exercise.

Taking after one of his parents, the Siberian Cocker does not do well in hot climates.

History

The Siberian Cocker is one of the new designer hybrids that have exploded onto the canine scene in the last twenty years or so. Potentially quite a sharp mix, puppies will tend to inherit more from one parent than the other but in either case, both parents have working traits. Huskys were bred to pull sledges in Siberia but then migrated further afield into North America. The Husky is tough and not always that tractable a breed. The Cocker was bred as a small hunting dog in the UK and takes its name from the quarry it was designed to pursue namely the Woodcock.

The medium-sized offspring seems to have inherited all the positive traits of the parents thankfully and makes a lovely companion dog.

Personality

The Siberian Cocker adores children and can make the perfect family pet in lots of different environments as they don’t require huge amounts of either space or exercise so town life is not a problem for them.

Loveable, outgoing and loyal, the Siberian Cocker is a smart dog so loves the interest and engagement of family life and particularly all the cuddles on offer. He is intelligent and trainable, traits inherited from both the parents and an ideal candidate for obedience training.
