No guessing which two breeds are behind the Malti-Poo, these character dogs are a cross between the Maltese and either a Miniature or Toy Poodle. Attractive to look at, the Malti-Poo combines the best characteristics from both breeds and makes the perfect pet for families and couples.

Smart and intelligent, the Malti-Poo is easy to train and is considered to be a non-shedding breed so perfect if someone in the household has allergies. They are tractable and kind and a good dog for new, first-time owners.

History

One of the novel designer crossbreeds which are all the rage at the moment, the Malti-Poo is the new dog on the block and is a blend of two very popular and established breeds. As with all new cross-breeds, characteristics and traits can vary and the Malti-Poo probably won’t be a straight split between the Poodle and the Maltese, favouring one breed more than the other.

What is important when you choose a puppy or mature dog, is that both parents are excellent examples of their type, free from defects and illness and with good, kind personalities.

Personality

The Malti-Poo is generally considered to be a fun-loving and playful dog, a trait which it inherits from the Poodle. They are bright, intelligent characters and so are easy to train and adaptable to different environments and lifestyles.

The Malti-Poo is a very human-focused breed and loves nothing more than spending time with people whether that’s curled up on the sofa or outside playing ball. They also make great agility dogs as they really enjoy the interaction and the challenge of the different tasks.
