Introduction

There’s no doubt that Dachshunds are some of the most iconic dogs in the world, and are truly unique in how they look and their personality. However, this is all for positive reasons as the Dachshund is incredibly beloved by cultures globally since they’re ideal for all families and households and make for excellent companion dogs.

History

There is several century’s worth of history for the little Dachshund, the earliest going back to 15th Century Germany, but there are reports that they could have been around and connected with humans as far back as Ancient Egypt. There’s even suggested evidence that shows them being a part of Ancient Mexican culture, so truly these are dogs that have been around for some time.

Nowadays, you can find Dachshunds all over the Western world, especially in the US and England, and some parts of Europe. While specifically bred as companion dogs, there are still parts of Europe that use them for hunting.

Personality

Since Dachshunds were bred to persevere in everything they do, they can tend to have a bit of a stubborn streak in them that can appear throughout training and when wanting to do things like stay at the park or keep playing. This can be fun for a bit, and annoying other times, so make sure you’re training them well and being assertive and firm from a young age.

However, apart from this, Dachshunds are very loving to their adult owners but seem not to get on very well with children, especially children they don’t know. If getting yourself a Dachshund, just note that they can be a lot of work to train well, can be loud, but the relationship will certainly pay off if you’re willing to put the time in.
