Introduction

White Swiss Shepherd Dogs share their heritage with German Shepherds and have been popular family pets and companion dogs for active people with outdoor lifestyles across Europe for many years.

History

White Swiss Shepherd Dogs descended from American and Canadian white-coloured German Shepherds, and although they are a genetic match, the two breeds have distinct differences, not least in their movement. The White Swiss Shepherd Dog was recognised as a separate breed in Switzerland in 1991 and by the Kennel Club in 2017.

Personality

The White Swiss Shepherd Dog is a friendly, kind, even-tempered dog that is known to form close bonds with its people. They are confident and outgoing, but extremely patient with children, making them much-loved family pets and companions. They can adapt to life in any type of home but need to be given plenty of exercise each day to stay happy and settled, and they thrive on being involved in everyday activities with a regular “job” to do.

Care Tips White Swiss Shepherd Dogs are relatively low maintenance, but shedding is constant. Grooming: twice-weekly grooming will help to remove dead hairs. Feeding: two meals per day of high-quality food. Exercise: one hour of exercise each day split into a morning and afternoon walk is the minimum requirement. Free time in a secure garden is ideal for this breed, and a happy White Swiss Shepherd Dog is a dog that has daily exercise and plenty of fun interaction with its people, ideally with a safe space to let off steam.
