No prizes for guessing what lies behind the Shollie, this is a new hybrid breed of a German Shepherd crossed with a Border Collie. Not a well-known crossbreed compared to some these days, it is reckoned that Shollies display more of the German Shepherd in the breed than the Collie but then most crossbreeds will favour more of one parent than the other – they are rarely a 50/50 split.

The Shollie is a new designer crossbreed with parentage that has truly ancient antecedents. Both the Collie and the GSD are known for their athleticism and trainable attitudes and one of the key features of this new hybrid is that it seems remarkably free of health problems.

Both breeds have a strong history of service to man and are capable but well-rounded working dogs used in a variety of roles in their own right which is proof of their tractable natures. So, if you are looking for a versatile medium-sized dog for the family home or a more working environment then the Shollie could fit the bill.

The Shollie makes the most perfect family pet, highly intelligent, they are pretty biddable and easy to train and gentle with children in the home. However, they are a high-energy breed and need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation so a busy household is the most ideal for their needs. Shollies have a reasonably good reputation with other pets including cats.
