Introduction

Well established on the mixed-breed dog scene, the Malti-Chon is a cross between the Maltese Terrier and the Bichon Frise – the clue is in the name! It’s a great fusion as the bubbly and playful nature of the Bichon Frise is perfectly complemented with the gentle and calm nature of the Maltese Terrier.

The Malti-Chon is not a dog that requires lots of exercise and so fits in well to an urban lifestyle but this breed is adaptable and equally at home as a family pet in a busy setting where there is lots to do.

History

Whilst the breed might be new, the two dogs that make up the Malti-Chon cross are both long-established and popular as companion animals. The Bichon Frise is a small white dog with a lively temperament, useful as ratters throughout the centuries, they have enjoyed royal patronage. Easy to train, the Bichon has even done a stint in the circus.

,p>Contrast this with the Maltese Terrier, an ancient breed from the Mediterranean with a calm and gentle disposition, really the ideal cross for the Bichon harnessing the best of both breeds to produce a quality cross that is proving very popular.

Personality

With generations of history as companion animals, both breeds create in the Malti-Chon a friendly and engaging dog that is bright and curious but with an easily trainable character and a well-behaved and tractable nature.

House training is most effective at an early age and this is a breed noted for its determined – some might say- stubborn personality. Good socialisation at an early age avoids a timid character later on and nervous behaviour which can result in yappiness.
