Introduction

Lancashire Heelers are cute and feisty little pups, which are totally full of character. They are known for their intelligence, but they can be a little cheeky. So, it’s important that as an owner you are mindful of this side of their personalities. Puppy training classes are always a great idea. That way, you can be sure to bring out the best in them as they grow up.

Those deep, round eyes never fail to make the heart melt. If you get their training right, Lancashire Heelers make for a kind, attentive and deeply loving new member of the family.

Did you know? If you’re interested in entering a dog in competitions, Lancashire Heelers are fantastic all-round performers. They are adept at everything from dog shows to obedience competitions, and agility to sheep herding.

History

Lancashire Heelers originate from Great Britain. These intelligent and athletic dogs were originally used to help farmers manage their livestock. In fact, because they’re a smaller breed, they were able to guide larger animals to the market by nipping at their legs. They were also used to help with other areas of farm life, including hunting smaller rodents.

Personality

There’s no disputing the fact that Lancashire Heelers are full of personality. They make for a fun-filled, bright and cheery addition to the family. But, and there is a catch, this is only as long as the owner has confidence in their ability to lead.

Lancashire Heelers are well-known for their mischievous tendencies. If that is not well-managed (vai puppy training, early socialisation to other dogs and strangers, and careful discipline) then this can get unruly.

So, as long as you work hard at their training, you’ll be rewarded by a sweet-natured, affectionate and joyful little pup.
