Introduction

The Jackshund is a relatively new breed, with its parentage made up of a Jack Russell Terrier and a Dachshund. As a new breed, its exact temperament and physical features are still being fully determined by breeders. Its parent breeds are both companion animals, and the Jackshund is no different. Perfect for families with older children, the Jackshund is a loyal companion and family dog.

History

The Jackshund is a new breed, so they don't have much of a history. It is thought that the first Jackshund litter was born twenty to thirty years ago, but we have no official proof of this. Since then, they have been becoming more and more popular. Both of the Jackshunds parental breeds are much-loved pedigree dogs with excellent reputations, so there is hope that the Jackshund will join them in the future.

Personality

As a new breed, their temperament is still settling, but in general, they are seen as loyal, happy, stubborn, energetic, and playful. Unwanted behaviours like excessive barking or barking at strangers can be worked on with a good amount of training, but the most important thing to keep these behaviours under control is early socialisation to a lot of new people and experiences. With early socialisation, they can make fantastic family pets, especially with children; however, younger children will need to be supervised. Jackshunds can also have a high prey drive and so need to be supervised around other animals to prevent aggression or fights.
