Introduction

There’s little doubt that Golden Retrievers have remained one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, especially throughout the UK, and for so many beautiful reasons. In addition to the fact these dogs are stunning, their calm nature, their lovable attitudes, and the fact that they want little more than to see you happy make it easy to see why Golden Retrievers are the number one choice for so many families.

History

It’s suggested that Golden Retrievers first appeared on the UK scene back in Victorian times, or around the 1800s, when dogs like Tweed Water Spaniels, Yellow Retrievers, and Red Setters, were all the rage, bred as both companionship dogs and working dogs. However, there are reports that date them back before this time from Scotland.

These dogs have remained popular ever since, and were officially recognised by Kennel Clubs throughout the early 1900s (accepted by the AKC in 1932) and were made even more famous by their movie roles, such as Air Bud, Marley and Me, Homeward Bound and so on. It’s clear that this lovable breed won’t be going anywhere but up any time soon.

Personality

Golden Retrievers are amazing. They are funny and nothing short of goofy, but they have nothing but love to share with their families. They are excellent family dogs, are fine around children and other pets, love meeting new people, even strangers, and are just a joy to have around, no matter what kind of life you’re living.

Of course, like any breed of dog, you need to make sure you’re training them properly. Since Golden Retrievers are so playful, you may need to supervise playtime with younger children, but as long as you’re being responsible, you should never have a problem with this breed!
