Introduction

While Eurasiers aren’t the most popular breed of dog in the world (ranking around 169 out of 244 breeds in the UK), they still make for fantastic dogs that will steal your heart and will never let it go (in a good way, of course!)

Bred for companionship, these dogs are incredibly loving and full of fun, loving nothing more than spending time with their family, playing games, just being the overall family dog you’ve dreamed of having.

History

Eurasiers are fairly new dogs that started breeding around the 1950s, which explains why they’re still not as popular as some other, more traditional dogs are nowadays. They started to appear in Germany when a breeder known by the name of Julius Wipfel combined the Wolf Spitz with the Chinese Chow Chow.

As of 2021, Eurasiers are starting to be recognised by organisations like the AKC and in the UK, but it’s a slow process that will continue to take decades. At the time of writing, there are an estimated 8500 Eurasiers in the world, and as people start to learn what a great dog they are, this number will continue to grow.

Personality

As we wrote above, Eurasiers are incredibly chill and laid back dogs. They’re not high-tempo, high-octane or yappy. They just love to be around their owners, enjoying life in the best way that dogs do. However, they do crave affection and need companionship, so you need to make sure you’re not leaving them on their own too long. Otherwise, you will have to be dealing with the destructive tendencies that will follow.
