Introduction

Dameranians are really fantastic dogs. Due to the traits of their parent breeds, these dogs are incredibly loyal to their families and very sweet and affectionate. They love little more than spending time with their family, having fun, going for walks, and just being an overall sweetheart. What’s more, this love and affection even carries out to other pets and people, even if they’re strangers!

History

The Dameranian is a hybrid breed, meaning it’s not quite yet a purebred since they have only started to be bred over the last few decades, which is achieved by mixing a Dachshund and a Pomeranian. While the true origins of this dog are unknown, there’s no doubt they’re being bred as companion and designer dogs.

While these dogs have perhaps been accidentally bred in the past, reports claim that they have started to be intentionally bred around the early 2000s and late 1990s, much like other breeds in the US when designer dog breeding really started to gain popularity.

Personality

It’s hard to know the actual traits of a hybrid breed, especially when it can vary so much depending on the dominant dog in a breeding example, and their own history. However, we can broadly take the traits of the parent breeds to find a rough average.

In the case of Dameranians, this means you’ll be able to enjoy all the benefits of a lively and active dog that loves to play, run around, and spend time with the family, but can be stubborn and demanding in its own way. This is why gentle yet assertive training is required from a young age that sets clear boundaries. Although, you can expect a bit of attitude, which is another reason why Dameranians can be so much fun!
