Introduction

Chow Chows are by far one of the most recognisable dog breeds in the world and have been around for centuries. Originally bred as working dogs, Chow Chows could be found pulling carts and as protection dogs. Nowadays, Chow Chows make exceptional companion dogs that are fantastic to have as part of any family, but are truly best when around single owners.

History

Chow Chows originally come from China, and there’s evidence that shows they’ve been a prominent part of Chinese culture for centuries. There have even been fossilized remains of the dog found. After scientific examinations completed back in 2004 to figure out where certain dog breeds came from, it was discovered the Chow was one of the original ancient era dogs from which most dog breeds stem from.

While spending most of its existence in China, it wasn’t until the 1880s when Queen Victoria took an interest in the dog and wanted to open a zoo exhibit specifically for Chinese dog breeds, in which the Chow became a part of it. They then spread around the globe throughout the late 1800s and became registered internationally in 1903.

Personality

Chow Chows have interesting personality types because they can be amazing around children and other animals, as long as they are trained to be social from a young age. This training needs to be firm and assertive, yet gentle, as Chow Chows are known for actively trying to take the top spot in a pack.

However, while great in packs and family units, the intense loyalty that Chow Chows have makes them perfect if you’re living alone or are single as you really give yourself the opportunity to develop an unparalleled connection with your pup.
