Introduction

Chiweenies are beautiful dogs, with two beautiful parent breeds that mix Chihuahua and the class Daschund. Because both breeds are fairly small in size, but both having such big hearts, Chiweenies are bundles of love and joy that aim to please and give you affection and nothing less.

We love that Chiweenies are such pocket-sized pups, making them fully adaptable to living in any kind of house or lifestyle, and there are few dogs that make better companions than these.

History

Since Chiweenies are designer dogs, they only started to appear around the 1990s and there’s not much history there to share. Chiweenies are companion-bred dogs through and through, bred mainly in the US, and are still being bred to this day, so it’s more of the case of watching this space to see what happens.

However, we do know a lot about the parent breed history, such as Chihuahuas have been about for centuries, and there’s evidence to suggest that Mexican cultures (like the Aztecs) actually owned Chihuahuas as far back as 100AD. Dachshunds, on the other hand, came to light in European countries like Germany around the 1600s.

Personality

While Chihuahuas are known for their sassy, sometimes unfriendly attitudes, Chiweenies are pretty much the opposite, and are known for being affectionate, loving, and gentle towards their adult owners. However, Chiweenies are not great around children or other dogs, and can sometimes see them as a threat.

You can dampen this trait with socialising training from a young age, say if you’re getting your Chiweenie as a pup, but training can be hard since Chiweenies can be very stubborn and may ignore your training efforts if you’re not assertive enough.
