Introduction

One of the smartest-looking dogs around thanks to their black and white suit look (many called a ‘tailored tuxedo’, Boston Terriers are simply a joy to be around. A hybrid breed, these pups are gentle and loving from the moment they enter the world, and there’s certainly a love for this breed you can’t find anywhere else.

Their large, deep-set eyes, broad shoulders, and their short but muscular build makes them lovably cute but also strong and stocky looking. Easy to look after, low-maintenance, and a lot of fun, what more could you ask for in a small dog?

History

Boston Terriers have been around for a long time, and reports claim they were first bred as far back as 1870. While an American dog, these pups are actually a hybrid breed between English Bulldogs and specifically white English Terriers that were traditionally bred for fighting and ratting.

However, don’t let that put you off. Nowadays, Boston Terriers are ideal as companion dogs that love playing games and running around but love relaxing at home just as much. Due to their short size, they are ideal for small apartments and large houses alike!

Personality

There’s no doubt that Boston Terriers are a breed full of energy, and their fun and light-hearted personality reflects this, as long as you train them well. These pooches are prone to ‘small dog syndrome’, which means if you spoil them and let them become alpha dog in your household, they will soon take over.

Boston Terriers are typically quite tolerant of other people and dogs, but not if it's overwhelming, so make sure you’re supervising interactions with children. However, as long as playtime remains fun and calm, you should never experience any problems.
