Introduction

The Borzoi breed is fairly uncommon to most people, but it’s the lucky owners who know the truth of just how amazing these dogs can be. Bred in Russia, Borzoi are fairly large compared with traditional household dogs, but that doesn’t make them any less ideal for any kind of living. Borzois are super adaptable.

Whether you’re living in an apartment or far out in the Great Outdoors, Borzois equally love relaxing at home and taking it easy, or running around and going for gold.

History

,p>Borzois have a long history that dates all the way back to the Middle Ages in Russia when these dogs were bred as hunting dogs due to their incredible agility and speed. The Borzoi was also bred for their amazing eyesight, which is why they’re known as being one of the best ‘sight hounds’.

In their Motherland, the Borzoi used to hunt in packs of three for prey like rabbits, foxes and was even known to take on wolves. However, as time went on, the breed moved away from its hunting origins, and became particularly popular as companion dogs, especially among European Royal families.

Personality

There’s little doubt that Borzois are one of the most balanced breeds of dogs out there. They are incredibly strong and fast, due to their above-average size, but they are also extremely docile and gentle, and can easily spend a day lounging around at home doing nothing.

That being said, Borzoi can become bored if you don’t stimulate them with a range of activities, so be varied in the training exercises you do with yours. Competitive obedience and agility events can be a great way to keep your pup focused.
