Introduction

The Bassador is a mixed breed and possesses the best characteristics of the popular Labrador Retriever and the Basset hound. It’s full of love for its favourite humans but isn’t overwhelming due to its laid-back nature.

If you are considering purchasing a Bassador puppy it’s worth researching its parent breeds thoroughly because its temperament and appearance will vary depending on who it takes after more.

History

Whilst it’s possible that the Bassador existed naturally before the intentional breeding programme began, the pooch probably originated in the late 1990s in North America. It wasn’t long until American and European households started searching for one of their own!

The history of the mixed-breed is very recent, but its two parent breeds have a long history. French aristocrats were the original owners of Bassett Hounds. After the French Revolution, they became popular amongst working men for their hunting abilities. Labrador Retrievers first arrived in Britain from Newfoundland (Canada) in the 1830s. They assisted fishermen by retrieving nets and escapee fish. Now, the Lab is considered one of the most loved companion dogs.

Personality

The Bassador’s temperament changes depending on which parent breed it takes after the most. For example, a Bassador can be guarded around strangers, taking after the Basset Hound’s independent streak. If a Bassador shows outgoing and social traits, then it resembles the Labrador Retriever more.

Even though there are irregularities, the Bassador is a very loving and friendly pooch. They are suited to family homes, are eager to please and will shower you with affection.
